Personal Reflection

Ever since I can remember I always wanted to come to Penn State, but was never sure if I had what it took to get in. The day I got the letter saying I was accepted into the program will be one of those days I will never forget.  I knew I always wanted to do construction and the Architectural Engineering program was one of the best in the country.  When I started taking the classes in AE and hearing the older kids talk about all they had done I knew it was going to be a journey with highs and lows, all culminating with the final Senior Thesis and Presentation.  I never really was excited to be in school for five years with seeing all my friends graduate and move on with their lives, but I now understand that you need all five years before you can be ready to complete this final step in my college career.  I feel extremely confident that I have the tools and skills need to excel in the construction industry.

I want to thank all the people in my life that have gotten me to this point.  I want to thank all of my professors over the five years.  Thank you to Benchmark Construction for taking a chance on a small town kid for providing me with the opportunity to learn more about the industry and ultimately offering me a full time position.  Finally, I want to thank my family without them I would not be here!

CPEP Assessment

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) site was an effective instrument in providing us student the ability to display our work.  It allowed for us to show the progress made from selecting a project to proposing and recommending alternatives the project.  This site also helps in providing a way to effectively show the work of all students (past and present) and helps in the sustainability effort of eliminating the amount of paper used.  Overall, it was a beneficial tool in helping complete my senior thesis.

Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Nicholas A. Slobozien. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
